What is C15 fatty acid?

C15, or pentadecanoic acid, is a saturated fatty acid with 15 carbon atoms. It occurs naturally in small amounts in milk fat and in even smaller amounts in meat, fish, and plants. This fatty acid belongs to the group of odd-chain fatty acids, different from the usual even-chain fatty acids found in many dietary fats.

C15 in modern diets

The intake of C15 (pentadecanoic acid) is increasingly concerning in modern diets. Full-fat dairy used to be a regular part of the diet. With the shift to low-fat and plant-based diets, eating full-fat dairy has declined significantly. If you don’t take full-fat dairy, you will ingest less C15. In fact, there is no C15:0 in plant-based milk substitutes!

How does C15:0 work?

C15 has a unique structure that plays a role in metabolism. After consumption, it is incorporated into cell membranes and used for energy. Veterinary epidemiologist Stephanie Venn-Watson discovered the role of pentadecanoic acid in dolphins. Research shows that C15:0 also plays a role in other animal species. Several clinical studies including in humans now use C15:0 as a supplement. For more information on the scientific underpinnings of C15:0, check out the research results at DiscoverC15.com.

How do you supplement C15:0 deficiency?

The C15:0 supplement, Fatty15, is ideal for vegan or low-fat diets. Fatty15 contains just one ingredient: bioavailable, science-based C15:0 (pentadecanoic acid). Fatty15 is made from plant-based fatty acids, without animal products, making it suitable for people following a vegan or vegetarian diet. What makes Fatty15 unique is its production method: adding a carbon atom to C14:0 creates a pure form of C15:0.

In full-fat dairy products and other animal fats, C15:0 is attached to lipids (triacylglycerides), which your intestines must break down. This makes the absorption of C15:0 less efficient. In Fatty15, the fatty acid is already in free form, so it can be absorbed faster by the body. Less work for your intestines, more C15:0 for your body.

Fatty15 contains no lactose, preservatives, fillers, oils, gluten, soy, allergens or artificial colours. It contains only one calorie per dose. You can easily open the vegetable capsule to mix the contents with food or drink.

Fatty15 is produced in cGMP-certified facilities, which stands for strict quality control and safety.
